Supporting Camp Fire USA
The international philanthropic focus of Gamma Phi Beta is supporting Camp Fire USA.
Camp Fire USA is one of the United States' leading not-for-profit youth development organizations, serving more than 650,000 participants annually in hundreds of communities. Camp Fire programs include small group experiences, after-school programs, camping and environmental education, childcare and service learning. These opportunities are designed to build confidence in younger children and provide hands-on, youth-driven leadership experiences for older youth.
How Delta Iota Supports Camp Fire USA
The Gamma Phi Beta Chapter at Purdue University holds a 3 v 3 Basketball tournament annually every spring to raise money to help send little girls to camp. Last year we had 24 teams participate in the tournament and raised a total of $1,200 dollars to donate to Camp Fire USA.
The sisterhood also devotes one day during recruitment every semester to preparing items to send to girls at camp. Last fall the entire sisterhood along with the help of all the new potential sorority women made fleece blankets to send to the camp participants. In the spring the sisters spent time bonding as they decorated water bottles and sent them off to camp.
Tabs for Tots
Delta Iota's second Philanthropy is called Tabs for Tots. Tabs for Tots is a movement across campus to collect pop tabs during Grand Prix week to see who can collect the most tabs. All the tabs are collected and donated to Riley's Children Hospital in Indianapolis.
It has become such a tradition across campus now that some organizations collect pop tabs all year long so that they can win the revered trophy in the spring. This year one campus organization turned in over 10,000 tabs! These tabs went straight to Riley's to help those in need.
